WESTERN KINGBIRD

7"

FIELD IDENTIFICATION: This kingbird can be distinguished from Wise County's other species of kingbird (Eastern) by its yellow-washed underside, gray head and back, and black tail with white outer tail feathers.  Another yellow-bellied flycatcher is the Great Crested Flycatcher.  It is common in open, dry areas and often perches on fences and power lines.

David Hastings caught this Western Kingbird in flight with an ant.
