MOURNING DOVE
12"
Taped in Greenwood, Texas in January 2001
FIELD IDENTIFICATION: The Mourning Dove can be found year-round in Wise County. It has a tapered body, and a pointed, long, white-edged tail. There are several dark spots on the wings (see photo below), and one spot below the eye. On some birds you can see a light purple-pink iridescence on the side of the neck (visible in photo below). In late summer and fall it can be seen in flocks of 50 or more.
