We found the caterpillar either on or below (I've forgotten) a cottonwood tree near the house and brought it inside.  We put it in a glass aquarium with a lot of cottonwood leaves and branches, where it spun a cocoon around itself.  Unfortunately, it got moldy and never emerged.
