White-lined Sphinx, Hyles lineata

Photos by Claire Curry

This glorious beauty was zipping around the lights in the garage one cool evening and got in the way of my work.  I caught it in my net to keep it out of trouble for the moment and then photographed it afterwards.  I guess sitting still in the net cooled it off, because it crawled onto my hand, quite docile, and just sat there a little while.  Then it began to vibrate its wings to warm up and eventually flew off.

When the sphinx flew off from the flower, someone in the group spotted this bug fall off from the moth.
