STARLING

8"

Observed Behavior: A Starling was observed catching red ants. It went to the center of the mount, dancing as if on hot coals, then quickly caught its prey and hopping to the side of the mound. A Starling was observed twice within an period of hour, but I was not sure if it was the same bird.  Grasshoppers were abundant and the flock of Starlings were gobbling them up as fast as they could.

Notice the adult's beak is yellow in spring and summer during breeding.
