LINCOLN SPARROW

4 3/4"

FIELD IDENTIFICATION: This small but beautiful sparrow is rather lively, and often has its crown feathers peaked.  Note the yellowish malar, gray supercilium, rich rufous and brown markings on the back and wings, dainty bill, and finely streaked breast with a buffy background.

The similar Song Sparrow has a longer, rounded tail, a heavier beak, has much bolder and thicker streaking on the breast.  The Savannah Sparrow also lacks the buffy background with fine streaking.
