The Wedgeling, Galgula partita

Photos by Claire Curry

Thanks to Dr. James Adams and Hugh McGuinness for the identification of this photo!  Until their helpful comments, it was referred to in my household as the "Perry Mason Moth", due to the location of the "type photo" moth.  That bug was on one of our windows; it looked like it was watching "Perry Mason" through the gaps in the curtains.  This particular individual also gave me a eureka moment in moth photography- I was so happy that the flash and everything worked perfectly at night, giving me a decent photo of a simply stunning moth!

On this evening there were seven of these little delights at a lighted window!

From the inside of the window, I measured the moths to be about 1/2 inch long.

Have you noticed that I seem to really like this species?  They're just so pretty, and come in so many rich shades of brown!  (Plus, I can now identify them pretty easily...)
