This mating pair (female above and male below) looked like a dead leaf at first glance.  Then Kathy Saucier came over and noticed what they really were - sphinx moths!

They were perched on a briar stem near the bottom of a wooded ravine on a cool (mid 50°s F) and cloudy afternoon.

Kathy put her finger under the moth and it flared its antennae and perched on her.
